Review: Gatineau Aquamemory Moisture Replenish Concentrate

If you like your skincare French and fancy, then this may be of interest. Gatineau is a luxury skincare brand that has all the bells and whistles - gorgeous packaging, complicated and exotic ingredients (Sea fennel extract? Platymonas?), big claims and a pricetag to match.

I have been getting tiny samples of various bits and pieces from this brand in sample boxes for ages now, and finally I have enough to feel as though I can actually give a review of it.

Of course I can't speak to any of the more hyperbolic claims usual for these sorts of products, but I can tell you this serum is light blue, and pleasant to use - it has a nice vaguely citrus smell, and it sinks into the skin quickly.  I've enjoyed using it, it adds a bit of french fanciness to my day, and I think we could all use that from time to time, don't you?

Review: Color WOW Shampoo & Conditioner

When you colour your hair as brightly as I do, fade is your enemy - I am always on the lookout for shampoos and conditioners that won't strip my hard-won colour out of my hair. When I was offered the chance to try out this new range, I was keen to give it a go - the "Color WOW" range is specially designed for coloured hair.
The part of the range that seems to be causing the most stir is a root touch-up product - they don't have that in wild red, strangely enough, so I just tried the shampoo and conditioner.

I judge a shampoo by its lather. Not by how sudsy it is, because that can actually be a sign it's full of colour-stripping soap agents, but rather by the colour of the lather. If the lather in my hair is bright pink or red, I know it's stripping colour out of my hair.. that's hair dye coming out of my hair into the lather - not good! With this shampoo - barely a tint. It left my hair looking really (really) shiny and bouncy, but didn't strip colour out much at all.

I'm really happy with these - if you have bright hair and want to reduce fade, I'd give these a go.

Out and About: Einstein on the Beach with the Arts Centre Melbourne Winter Season

As regular readers would be aware, I regularly (but not as regularly as I'd like!) attend events at the Arts Centre as their guest in return for telling you about what they've got on there.. this seems to me to be the easiest thing in the world, because every season they bring some really amazing stuff out to Melbourne for all of us to enjoy.
The arts and culture scene is one of the main reasons I moved to Melbourne and I think the Arts Centre is really the hub of that - it's an incredible showcase of talent from all over the world.

This winter they have once again put together a spectacular program. Some of the highlights of the
Winter season are Penny Plain, a beautifully dark apocalyptic puppetry comedy; Einstein on the Beachan epic and ground-breaking opera/contemporary dance fusion; Proximity, a contemporary dance performance captured and artistically manipulated through videography; and lastly, Botanica a beautifully mesmerising family-friendly performance featuring spectacular costumes, inspiring dance, and theatre.

At the end of the month my daughter and I are going tackle a behemoth - the four hour long epic modern opera Einstein on The Beach. From what I understand you're not meant to sit through the whole thing - it's designed to be experienced in parts, you can wander in and out of the theatre during the performance. I have a feeling we're both going to be glued to our seats, because this sort of thing is frankly fascinating to both of us.. but I"ll let you know how we go - keep an eye on my twitter stream on the 31st!

Here's how the Arts Centre describe what we're going to see:

"With no story, hero, or heroine, Einstein unfolds as a hypnotic tableau, inspired by the poetic idea of a genius, propelled by Glass' sublime score. A cosmic chorus of syllables, numbers, streams of consciousness, and enigmatic poems are punctuated by Lucinda Childs' choreography which unfold beneath Wilson's spectacular set, enlivening this epic, seminal masterwork. "

Sounds like an interesting way to spend an evening, wouldn't you say? I can't wait.

Review & Swatches: Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer

Here's something new from Rimmel - a lip lacquer range by the name of Apocalips. The name might not be original (and must have raised a few eyebrows over at Illamasqua) but the product does seem to be something new.

It's a hybrid - the delivery system and shine of a gloss, the intense pigment and long lasting colour of a lipstick. These really pack a punch, and a little goes a long way.
The packaging is nothing less than gorgeous - the top is faceted like a gem jem, and the body has a gradient from black to the colour of the gloss.
The lid shuts with a satisfying click. They really are a pleasure to use, and the insides are just as functional as the outsides.

I recieved a range of shades to try, and I have swatched them for you - there are some really gorgeous shades here. Even the neutral tones are highly pigmented - I haven't tried it on a range of lip tones but they seem opaque - I think regardless of the colour of your lips you would get a clear tone out of these.

Stargazer - A golden colour with a strong gold shimmer.
Phenomenon - This is a light pink colour.
Nude Eclipse- Problematic name aside, this is a dusky peach toned pink.
Solstice- A brownish pink.
Celestial - A dusky pink that sits between Solstice and Nova in tone.
Nova- A dusky pink, a few tones darker than Celestial
Apocaliptic - A really hot pink colour - a very bright "pop" of colour.
Stellar - A hot coral colour, not as red as the swatch picture would have you believe. Definitely reads pink rather than red on my lips.

I am very impressed with these - they seem to combine the best features of both lipstick and gloss, and I will be keen to add a few of the reds to my collection soon.

Six O'Clock Swatch: Sally Hansen Instadri Sonic Boom Nail Polish

Today's swatch is Sally Hansen's InstrDri In Sonic Boom. This is a scorching hot pink with a high gloss shine.

This nail polish does dry quicker than usual, and what I really love about Sally Hansen polishes is the really awesome wide brushes they have, it makes application so much easier.
